From its humble beginnings as Heaven, Kigali's pioneering restaurant and hospitality training facility, to its evolution into a haven of bespoke experiences. The Retreat's narrative is a testament to the visionaries who have woven Rwandan authenticity and global sophistication into its very fabric.

2017
In 2017, we were inspired to build the first luxury boutique property in Kigali as international luxury hotel brands were under construction near Volcanoes National Park.
2018
The Retreat opened in 2018, with only 11 rooms and quickly became Kigali’s most luxurious, eco-friendly and intimate high-end properties.
2020
In April 2020, during the COVID pandemic, the owners built an entirely new wing, with 8 luxury pool villas, an expanded spa, elevated conference room, and spectacular lounge with open air deck.
